oopsie, I am only after seeing Poets post now after my big lecture! Im delighted you are not giving up at the firt hurdle. Smoking is very much like alcoholism or any other substance abuse(im possibly being a bit dramatic but you get the picture!), Im not suggesting that we all do the 12 steps but I do think that it is something that can only be dealt with one day at a time.

Now take a look at yourselves and think 2 weeks ago how much you were smoking and did you think you would get this far? I know I didnt. That in itself is a huge achievement so give yourselves a pat on the back!

  1. i had a comment all written, and then it was gone.thanks for the support. we're gonna make it. i was pretty miffed last night, but decided that i was being too hard on myself, after all the length of time i have been a smoker is much longer than the length of time i have been trying to change that, so i need to cut myself some slack. today is another day, and i have only had 5 ciggys all day, and that is being up at 8am!
we have been washing walls in the kitchen, almost done with that room, but we are taking a nap break now, not used to all that hard physical labour, ha ha, and with my underactive thyroid i get tired easily. kath had a half a gravol (anti nausea pill) before her 1mg champix and she is sleepy now too. we'll check in again tonight. meanwhile enjoy your day/evening. poet.

  2. fair play to you Poet and Kath, as Tquit rightly said to me not too long ago, its not a race. Find a pace you are happy with. Well done on washing walls too! I am way too lazy for that! Ha ha

  3. Zoe, well done on 5 days off them! Poet & Kath, stick with the plan to reduce, and hopefully the Champix will kick in and soon you'll just say to yourself that you don't really fancy a smoke, or can't be bothered going outside and that will be it and you'll look back and wonder what it was all about (hopefully!)
Cleaning the house is a nice way to start afresh. The weather has been great here the last few days so it was all windows open to get some fresh air in, even tho I only smoked out the kitchen window previously.
Tonight was the first night I actually had to remind myself "oh, I didn't think of having a cig all day" and it wasn't even a desire to have one then. After 20 years smoking, this is a nice feeling! Like TQ, I used to have to get a cig in between meetings, and arrive late, which added more pressure on me - now I get there relaxed and ready - another good benefit of not smoking! When I think of it, I used to "have" to have a smoke just in case I couldn't get one later which is kinda crazy because it meant I didn't actually need one at that time. Plus working out in advance when you can get a smoke in, and grabbing any outdoor opportunity for one must have been a bad sign...
Zoe, isn't the extra time a nice bonus! I hope you do start to feel better physically for being off them. I've felt better, chest is now clearer which lets me do more and makes me feel fitter at least, and not having a coffee with every smoke also has its health benefits!
Well, good to read everyones stories, cya later!
